We’ll showcase aspects of OpenAI Five which we think illustrate how humans and AI will interact in the future. We believe that AI’s impact on the world will be driven by its competence, scalability, and ability to enhance what humans can do—and this event will use OpenAI Five to concretely demonstrate each of these. We hope Finals will help people better internalize AI progress and how it will affect the world.
We started working with Dota 2 because we expected it to be a good testbed for developinggeneral-purpose AI technologies. It has additionally turned out to be a great avenue for helping people experience modern AI—which we expect to become a high-stakes part of people’s lives in the future, starting with systems like self-driving cars.
As part of the event, we’re honored to compete against the reigning Dota 2 world champions,OG(opens in a new window), who will test OpenAI Five at the limits of human ability. We’ll also be joined byBlitz(opens in a new window),Capitalist(opens in a new window),ODPixel(opens in a new window),Purge(opens in a new window)), andSheever(opens in a new window). Games will be played with rules similar to those used for the OpenAI Five matches atThe International 2018.
OpenAI Five Finals will be hosted in the Bay Area on April 13. The event will run from 11:30am to about 4pm (exact length depends on game duration). Doors will open at 11am.
