TimBuckDo: Empowering Gen Z with Gig Opportunities

The conversation around Gen Z often highlights their unique approach to work and life. This generation is not just breaking conventional workplace norms; they are reshaping them entirely.

Unlike previous generations, who typically followed a structured path of education and career progression, Gen Z is eager to take control of their financial futures. Many are turning to freelance and gig work to achieve independence, but finding suitable opportunities that fit their schedules and ambitions can be challenging.

TimBuckDo, founded by Mythri Kumar in 2022, aims to fill this gap by connecting college students with paid gig opportunities. The platform allows students to explore projects that resonate with their interests while also providing access to discounts from various merchants.

“We are a part-time job portal for college students where employers can hire based on their immediate needs,” Kumar explained. The platform offers a diverse range of job roles, from supermarket staff and receptionists to graphic designers and social media managers.

TimBuckDo competes with other gig platforms like PickMyWork and Gig4U, but Kumar emphasizes its student-first approach, offering support throughout the hiring process and addressing any grievances.

The startup has successfully raised approximately ₹7.3 Cr in funding, along with a ₹21 Lakh grant from the Karnataka government. Kumar's personal experiences with gig work during her college years inspired the creation of TimBuckDo.

After her college years, Kumar founded Cosmos Renewable Energy and later became a partner at Vasshin Composites. However, her journey took a pivotal turn when she saw her younger brother, who was passionate about stock trading, struggling to find financial support. This experience rekindled her interest in gig work and led to the birth of TimBuckDo.

TimBuckDo has gained traction, featuring on the program Ideabaaz and securing additional funding from notable investors. The platform connects students with employers while ensuring fair working conditions, including a limit on weekly hours and a strict KYC verification process.

Currently, TimBuckDo has around 5 Lakh registered students, with active users earning an average of ₹3,200 per week. The startup anticipates reaching a gross revenue of ₹2.2 Cr by FY26.

As Gen Z continues to redefine the workplace, platforms like TimBuckDo are essential in providing accessible gig opportunities, empowering young individuals to achieve financial independence and pursue their passions.
